How to replace Lower Control Arms on Mitsubishi car models?

The details to perform this task is as follows :-----

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the appropriate wheel assembly.
  3. If equipped with ABS, disconnect the speed sensor harness brackets from the lower control arm.
  4. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm.
  5. Remove the through-bolt, connecting the knuckle assembly to the lower control arm.
  6. Remove the mounting bolt connecting the lower control arm to the suspension crossmember.
  7. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
To install:

NOTE
The control arm mounting bolts must not be fully tightened until the full weight of the vehicle is on the ground.

  1. Install the control arm to the suspension crossmember and temporarily tighten the mounting bolt.
  2. Connect the knuckle to the lower control arm and lightly tighten the through-bolt.
  3. Connect the stabilizer bar link to the control arm and tighten the nut to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  4. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle to the floor.
  5. Once the full weight of the vehicle is on the suspension, tighten the lower arm mounting bolt nuts to 71 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
  6. Check rear wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.
  1. Raise and properly support vehicle. Remove appropriate wheel assembly.
  2. Matchmark the camber adjusting bolt to aid in reassembly.
  3. On vehicles equipped with Active Suspension, disconnect the ECS height sensor rod from lower arm.
  4. Support trailing arm assembly and remove the self-locking nut connecting the lower arm to the trailing arm.
  5. Disconnect the lower arm at the rear subframe. Remove the arm assembly.
To install
  1. Connect the control arm to the rear crossmember. Align matchmarks and lightly tighten.
  2. Connect the control arm to the trailing arm and tighten the self-locking nut to 54-61 ft. lbs. (75-89 Nm).
  3. Connect the ECS height sensor rod to the lower arm, if equipped.
  4. Install wheel and lower vehicle.
  5. With the full weight of the vehicle on the ground, tighten the control arm to rear crossmember bolt to 54-61 ft. lbs. (75-89 Nm).
  6. Check rear wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. If equipped with a lower arm cover, remove the cover.

  4. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower arm.
  5. If equipped with ABS, remove the wheel speed sensor clamp bolts.
  6. Remove the through-bolt securing the lower arm to the knuckle.

  7. Remove the through-bolt securing the lower arm to the suspension crossmember.

  8. Remove the lower control arm.

  9. If necessary, remove the toe control arm from the vehicle as follows:
    1. Use a suitable puller to separate the toe control arm ball joint and steering knuckle connection.
    2. Matchmark the toe control arm and eccentric cam bolt for installation purposes.

    3. Unfasten the toe control arm mounting bolt, then remove the toe control arm from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. If removed, install the toe control arm and secure with the retaining bolt, as aligned during removal
  2. Install the lower arm to the suspension crossmember and the knuckle but do not tighten the through-bolts until the vehicle is on the floor at normal riding height.
  3. Install the ABS wheel speed sensor clamp bolts to the lower arm, if removed.
  4. Connect the stabilizer link to the lower arm.
  5. Install the lower arm cover if removed.
  6. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle to the floor and tighten the through-bolts to 71 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Disconnect the stabilizer link connection. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor mounting bolts.
  3. Properly support the lower control arm assembly.
  4. Remove the lower arm assembly and knuckle connecting bolt. Remove the lower arm mounting bolt.
  5. Remove the lower control arm assembly from the vehicle.
To install
  1. Install the lower control arm to its mounting.
  2. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  3. Check and adjust the rear alignment, as necessary.

  2. Remove the shock absorber assembly and knuckle connection retaining bolt.
  3. Properly support the lower control arm assembly.
  4. Remove the lower control arm assembly and stabilizer link assembly connection.
  5. Remove the lower control arm assembly and knuckle connection bolt.
  6. Remove the lower arm bolt and arm plate.
  7. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
To install
  1. Install the lower control arm to its mounting.
  2. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  3. Check and adjust the rear alignment, as necessary.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Support the lower arm assembly, using a floor jack.
  3. After making a mating mark on the toe-in or camber adjusting bolt, remove the control link or lower arm.
  4. Remove the lower arm and trailing arm bolt and nut.
  5. Remove the lower shock absorber retaining bolt and nut.
  6. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
To install
  1. Install the lower control arm to its mounting.
  2. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  3. Check and adjust the rear alignment, as necessary.
Evolution
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. After making a mating mark on the toe-in or camber adjusting bolt, remove the control link or lower arm.
  3. Properly support the lower control arm assembly.
  4. Remove the lower control arm assembly mounting bolt.
  5. Remove the lower control arm assembly.
To install
  1. Install the lower control arm to its mounting.
  2. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  3. Check and adjust the rear alignment, as necessary.

The lower ball joint is integral with the lower toe control arm. They are removed and replaced as an assembly.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the appropriate wheel assembly.
  3. Matchmark the control arm adjusting bolt to aid in reassembly.
  4. Using joint separator MB991113, disconnect the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts connecting the lower control arm to the suspension crossmember.
To install:
  1. Connect the control arm to the suspension crossmember. Align the matchmarks on the adjustment bolt and lightly tighten the bolt.
  2. Connect the ball joint stud to the knuckle and tighten the nut to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  3. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle to the floor.
  4. With the full weight of the vehicle on the ground, tighten the control arm through-bolt to 50-56 ft. lbs. (69-78 Nm).
  5. Check rear wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.
