  4. Place the drive and driven rotors into the oil pump body.
  5. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the drive and driven rotor tips.
  6. Standard tip clearance is 0.060 to 0.180 mm (0.0024 to 0.0071 in.). Maximum clearance is 0.425 mm (0.0167 in.).
  7. If the tip clearance is greater than maximum, replace the rotors as a set.

  8. Using a feeler gauge and precision straight edge, measure the clearance between the rotors and precision straight edge.
  9. Standard side clearance is 0.030 to 0.090 mm (0.0012 to 0.0035 in.).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the negative battery cable to prevent possible airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Remove the timing chain cover (refer to the timing chain procedure).
  5. Remove the 2 bolts, 3 screws and oil pump cover from the timing chain cover.
  6. Remove the drive and driven rotors.
  7. Remove the plug, spring and relief valve.
To install:
  1. Insert the relief valve and spring into the pump body hole, and install the plug. Torque the plug to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  2. Place the drive and driven rotors into timing chain cover with the marks facing the oil pump cover side.
  3. Install the oil pump cover to the timing chain cover with the 2 bolts and 3 screws. Torque the bolts to 78 inch lbs. (8.8 Nm), and the screws to 8 ft. lbs. (10.3 Nm).
  4. Install the timing chain cover (refer to the timing chain procedure).
  5. Refill engine with engine oil.
