How To Replace Ford 6.0L Diesel Engine Turbocharger?


The procedure is similar for both ford and Lincoln car models:-----

Ford diesel engine model 6.0L.
The procedure is similar for ford F series Trucks and Lincoln Mark LT.

Turbocharger
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Details are mentioned below:----

6.0L Diesel Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Disconnect the engine vent and radiator vent hoses.
  4. Remove the bolts and position the degas bottle (coolant reservoir) aside.
  5. Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger.
  6. Remove the nuts and the turbocharger intake tube.
  7. Disconnect the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) inlet pipe.
  8. Remove the push pins from the shield above the turbocharger.
  9. Disconnect the two wiring harness push pins and position aside.
  10. Disconnect the turbocharger variable vane hydraulic control valve electrical connector.
  11. Remove the bolts for the turbocharger oil supply tube.
  12. Remove and discard the gasket.
  13. Remove the bolt and the wire retainer from the turbocharger.
  14. Remove the clamp from the turbocharger outlet.
  15. Remove the clamp from the turbocharger inlet.

Early build
  1. Remove the rear turbocharger mounting bolt.

Late build
  1. Remove the bolt and turbocharger oil supply tube.
  2. Remove and discard the O-ring.
  3. Remove the rear turbocharger mounting bolt.

All vehicles
  1. Remove the front mounting bolts.
  2. Position the turbocharger and remove the turbocharger drain tube.
  3. Remove and discard the drain tube O-rings.
  4. Remove the turbocharger. Remove the bolts and the turbocharger pedestal.

To install:
All vehicles
  1. Position the turbocharger on the turbocharger pedestal.
    NOTE
    Install new O-rings and apply clean engine oil.
  2. Position the turbocharger and install the turbocharger drain tube.

Late build
  1. Install the turbocharger and the rear mounting bolt. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
    NOTE
    Install a new O-ring and apply clean engine oil.
  2. Install the oil supply tube. Torque to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  3. Position the locking bracket and install the bolt.

Early build
  1. Install the turbocharger and the rear mounting bolt. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
  2. Install the oil feed tube.

All vehicles
  1. Install the turbocharger front mounting bolts. Torque to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
  2. Install the turbocharger inlet clamp.
  3. Install the turbocharger exhaust clamp.
  4. Position the wire retainer and install the bolt.
  5. Pre-lubricate the oil inlet hole of the turbocharger assembly with clean engine oil and spin the compressor wheel several times to coat the bearing with oil.
  6. Position the oil feed tube and install the bolts.
  7. Install a new gasket.
  8. Connect the turbocharger variable vane hydraulic control valve electrical connector.
  9. Position the wiring harness and connect the push pins.
  10. Install the push pins.
  11. Connect the charge air cooler inlet pipe.
  12. Install the turbocharger intake tube.
