How to Replace Front and Rear Heater Core on Ford?

The details to replace heater core are as follows:---


Removal & Installation
FRONT HEATER CORE
REAR  HEATER CORE
The instructions are mentioned below:---


Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
Remove the cowl top vent panel.
Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet tubes.
Remove the ground strap from the heater core tube, as required.
Remove the center instrument panel trim.

Front Heater Core

2. Remove the ashtray.
3. Remove the rear seat airflow duct.
4. Label and disconnect the keyless entry wiring harness, as required.
5. Remove the center instrument panel support brackets.

6. Label and disconnect the climate control vacuum lines.
7. Remove the heater outlet floor duct.
8. Remove the housing core plate retaining screws and remove the heater housing core plate.

9. Remove the heater core.

To install:

1. Position the heater core.
2. Install the heater housing core plate and tighten the screws securely.
3. Install the heater outlet floor duct.
4. Connect the climate control vacuum lines.
5. Install the center instrument panel support brackets.
6. Connect the keyless entry wiring harness, as required.
7. Install the rear seat airflow duct.
8. Install the ashtray.
9. Install the center instrument panel trim.
10. Install the ground strap to the heater core tube, as required.
11. Connect the heater hoses on the heater core inlet and outlet tubes.
12. Install the cowl top vent panel.
13. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Rear

WARNING

It is a federal crime to vent refrigerant into the atmosphere. A/C components on your vehicle should be serviced only by a Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) trained, and EPA certified automotive technician.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain and recycle the engine coolant.
3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
4. Place a drain pan under the heater water hose connections for the rear heater assembly.
5. Drain and recycle the engine coolant from the auxiliary heater core and hoses.
6. Disconnect the two A/C spring lock couplings using a Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool (T84L-19623-B) or equivalent.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove all rear passenger seating.
9. Remove the three push pin retainers from the lower edge of the auxiliary heater and air conditioning service cover.
10. Lift the service cover outward and upward to remove.
11. Label and disconnect the electrical harnesses.
12. Label and disconnect the vacuum lines.
13. Remove the body side trim panels.
14. Disconnect and plug all A/C refrigerant lines.
    
    NOTE

    It is extremely important that the A/C lines be plugged to prevent the entry of dirt or moisture.
15. Remove the lower A/C recirculation air duct and heater extension air duct.
16. Remove the auxiliary heater and A/C assembly.

To install:

1. Position the auxiliary heater and A/C assembly in the vehicle. Guide the heater water hoses through the floor grommet. Tighten the retaining screws to 16-23 inch lbs. (2-3 Nm).
2. Connect all A/C refrigerant lines.
3. Install the lower A/C recirculation air duct and heater extension air duct. Tighten the retaining screws to 16-23 inch lbs. (2-3 Nm).
4. Install the body side trim panels.
5. Connect the vacuum lines.
6. Connect the electrical harnesses.
7. Install the auxiliary heater and air conditioning service cover and secure with three push pin retainers.
8. Install all rear passenger seating.
9. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
10. Connect the heater water hoses to the heater core tubes.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Fill the engine with coolant.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Have a qualified technician evacuate and charge the A/C system with refrigerant.
